MEET DR. YOUNGER
Dr. Alastair Younger was born in Scotland and attended school in the centre of Scotland until the age of 18. He also attended school in Edinburgh. His family lives in Edinburgh and in Fife, close to St. Andrews.
Alastair's father was farming next to St. Andrews and the family farm is now the Craigtoun Golf Course. He attended Aberdeen University to study medicine from 1980 to 1985. Alastair became interested in surgery and began surgical training in Aberdeen followed by Edinburgh. While growing up and attending university, he was a keen competitive skier having ski raced through high school and at university.

EDUCATION & TRAINING
During surgical training, it was suggested that Alastair did a master’s degree to further his surgical career. He applied to study with Dr. Jim Morrison at Simon Fraser University and travelled to Canada to complete a master’s degree. His research came to the attention of the orthopedic surgeons in Vancouver including Dr. Clive Duncan who invited him to become a resident orthopedic surgeon in Vancouver.
Alastair completed his residency training in Vancouver and spent a year in Boston learning joint replacement surgery followed by a fellowship in Seattle with Dr. Sigvard Hansen in foot and ankle surgery. Alastair was recognized for his research contributions by being an American, British, Canadian travelling Fellow and a North American travelling Fellow.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS & ACCOLADES
Alastair began his practice in 1998 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver and developed a Foot and Ankle Program. He initiated a research office that did collaborative research with Toronto and Halifax understanding the outcomes of ankle arthritis surgery and established a Fellowship Program and a Residency Training Program. Alastair is a partner at Footbridge Clinic and has been the principal author or coauthor of the Roger Mann Award or the International Foot & Ankle Society Award at the American Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Society Meeting for six times in the last 25 years. He continues to present internationally on his research on minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery and ankle arthritis. He is a member of the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of British Columbia Division of Foot & Ankle. Alastair works out of Cambie Surgery Centre in Vancouver.
